The Foundation for the Conservation of the Maltese Honey Bee is a social-purpose, non-profit organisation established by statute under Article 3 of the Voluntary Organisations Act, Chapter 492 of the Laws of Malta. It is registered with the Office of the Commissioner for Voluntary Organisations under enrolment number VO/2403. Additionally, the Foundation is registered as a legal entity with the Office of the Registrar for Legal Persons, in accordance with Chapter 16 of the Laws of Malta, holding the certificate of registration number LPF-408, and complies with the requirements of the Second Schedule of the Civil Code. The Maltese Honey Bee colonies owned by the Foundation are registered with the Veterinary Regulation Directorate under registration number BK375. The Foundation created the popular Katerina mascot and is also affiliated with the European Beekeeping Association.
